The post-industrial society is a period or stage of the development of society where the service sector dominates over production or manufacturing sector of the economy. The term was coined by the French Sociologist Alain Touraine.
The industrial society refers to the society when the industrial or manufacturing sector dominated the economy. After the Industrial society, there began post-industrial society when service sector or knowledge dominated the economy and social life. In post-industrial society the blue-collar and industrial working jobs decline and new jobs like IT professionals, BPO, KPO, scientists etc grow more and more. Knowledge became the main capital of individual and producing ideas become the main way to grow economy.
