The term post-industrial society refers to the stages of economic development in a society after industrialization has taken place there. The term post-industrial was first coined and used by the American sociologist Daniel Bell in 1973. In a post-industrial society, there is less focus on enhancing the country’s economy through the production and provision of goods. More emphasis is given to areas such as services, information, and technology. Instead of changing the country’s economy alone, the society gets altered as a whole.

Some changes that happen as an influence of post-industrial societies are:

# Production industries like textiles decrease and service industries like restaurants show an increase in number.

# Technical and professional jobs gain more importance than manual and blue collar jobs.

# Importance is given to creation and effective utilization of new technologies.
