The word Satyagraha is from the Sanskrit words satya (meaning "truth") and Agraha ("insistence", or "holding firmly to"). For Gandhi, Satyagrahawent far beyond just "passive resistance" (resisting without taking action) according to him it was a moral force born of truth and non-violence.

\textbf{Satyagraha}:

Satyagraha is not a physical force, it is actually a pure soul-force.

The idea of Satyagraha emphasised the power of truth and the need to search for truth.

A satygrahi doesn't inflict pain on the adversary. According to MK Gandhi truth is the substance of the soul.

Hence, this force is called satygraha.
