Statistics :  

The word 'Statistics'  is derived from the Latin word 'Status'. It is also been  

derived from the Italian word 'statista'  or  from the German word 'statistic' which means a 'political state.'  

(i) Singular form :  

Statistics is a science which deals with the collection, presentation, analysis and interpretation of numerical data.

(ii) Plural form :  

Statics means numerical facts or observations collected with definite purpose.
