Osmosis
- Osmosis is the transport of water through a semi-permeable membrane from a solution of higher concentration to solution of lower concentration.
- In the process of osmosis water only transported over a shorter period of time.
- Osmosis is a slow process.
- Transport of water from a solution of low concentration to that of high concentration is a more water molecules to fewer water molecules.
- Water in Osmosis only transported over a shorter distance.
- Either a living or non living membrane is needed for a complete of Osmosis process.

An important thing to note in the definition is that only the water molecules move from their higher concentration to their lower concentration.

Let's do an experiment to find that Osmosis take place in water.
- Take some concentrated sugar solution in thistle funnel.
- Cover the mouth of the funnel with a cellophane paper or egg layer or animal bladder. eventually we can't find egg layer or animal bladder so we will use cellophane paper.
- Now inverse the thistle Funnel in a beaker containing water and spend it.
- Make the level of the sugar solution on the theme of that thistle funnel.
- You will observe that after a few hours the level of the sugar solution in that thistle funnel in the experiment set up by you will rise.
- The level of water in the funnel in the control will remain unchanged.
- The level of water in the beaker in the experiment will drop slightly while the one in the beaker in the control will remain unchanged.
- If we will test the water it will be not sweet.

The cellophane paper has acted as semi-permeable membrane it has allow water molecule to p@ss through but not a sugar molecules.
ss through but not a sugar molecules._____________________
