Nichrome is a metal alloy which contains metals like nickel and chromium. The electrical resistance of this metal alloy is extremely high.

That's why when electricity flows through a nichrome wire ,a large amount of heat energy is generated.

(Because, according to the Ohm's law the generated heat energy is directly proportional with the electrical resistance)

This property of the nichrome wire is used in the bulb filaments and electrical heaters.
