the transfer of food or energy take place through various steps or levels in the food chain known as trophic level. the producer autotrophs are present at first trophic level they fix solar energy making it available for consumers heterotrophs . the herbivores are the primary consumers are found at the second trophic level. small carnivorous or secondary consumers are present at the Third trophic Level. the large or tertiary consumer from the fourth trophic level

Each step or level of the food chsin forms trophic level.The autotrophs or the producers are the first trophic level. The herbivores or the primary consumers comes at the second. Small carnivores or the secondary consumers comes at third.Larger carnivores or the tertiary consumers form the fourth trophic level.
