I assume what your are talking about is on the hand written prescription (from your doctor)? Doctors use a form of shorthand; if you will…(probably latin abbreviations)… That is understood within the medical community ie; doctors, nurses, pharmacists & etc. Here are some examples: BD=twice daily/bi-daily PO=to be taken orally/by mouth NPO=not taken orally/by mouth AC=before meals PC=after food PR=rectally TDS=three times a day QDS=four times a day.
