simple explanation :

A single molecule is known as monomer

and by connecting so many monomer with each other (connecting n number of monomer with same linkage) is called ploymer.

and formation of those linkages between polymers are known as branching.

chain polymer are those who connects in chain like structure like

eg.->N-pentane, N-hexane
