What does democracy mean for these people?
1. Anmol loved going to school. She was one of the best students in her class, But this year, Anmol had to stay at home to look after her younger brothers and sisters while her mother went to work
2 Pinto's hands were injured in an accident at the factory where he worked. The factory owner refused to pay his medical bills or let him return to work. Pinto wants to take the factory owner to court, but does not have the money to pay the lawyer's fees.
3.Raju is feeling sad and angry. His brother was asked to clean the toilets in school that morning. When he refused, he was told he had to do it as he was a dalit. Raju had learnt in school that the Constitution of India guarantees equality for all. He had felt proud of his country. But now he is not so sure. Even after 70 years of independence, people are still face discrimination on the basis of their caste.
Do you think democracy works for these Indians? As future citizens of India, what do you think can be done to make Indian society equal, more tolerant and inclusive?
