when Derry told his mother about Mr Lamb then , she refused him to return back because she thought that world is not like it seems to him. And Mr Lamb is not a good person .And as a mother she was concerned about him and didn't want to see him upset. So, she didn't want to allow him to go back to him .

Derry's mother did not want him to go back to Mr Lamb because of the following reasons:

• Derry's mother knew little about Mr Lamb. She did not have a favourable opinion of him as she had heard matters related to Mr Lamb that led her to have a negative impression of him.
• She thought that Mr Lamb was not an awesome character based on rumours spread by other people about him as he lived on his own, wasn't involved a lot with the outside world and children used to tease him. So, she thought that Mr Lamb was not a good company for her son and did not want him to go to Mr Lamb.
• Moreover, Derry's residence was three miles far away from Mr Lamb's residence. This became another reason for her to stop Derry from going there.
