The diaphragm separates the thoracic cavity, containing the heart and lungs, from the abdominal cavity and performs an important function in respiration: as the diaphragmcontracts, the volume of the thoracic cavity increases and air is drawn into the lungs.

diaphragm is the thin skeletal muscle sits at the base of chest . separate the abdomen from the chest . and it is C shaped structure of muscle .
