Answers
The poem ‘Poem in October’ is written by Dylan Thomas. The poem is about how he wakes up early morning on his thirtieth birthday and takes a walk around to discover himself. He expresses the contrast between his childhood days and now the inevitable maturity that he needs to accept at his thirtieth birthday.
‘The green chapel’ during the bright summer days is the contrast to the church in this cold rainy autumn which looks like a snail. He describes that he remembers the good days when he walked around along with his mother during his childhood days and how he enjoyed learning the parables and about the prophets of the chapel from the Bible. To express the happiness that he had, he poetically writes the following line.
‘And the legends of the green chapels’.
October was written by Dylan Thomas on the account of his 30th birthday on 27th October, 1914. He went for a walk on when whole Laugharne was sleeping. It was October month, the season of autumn. The poet says that life is moving towards heaven and he has taken one more step ahead to it when he turned 30.
The poet went back to his memory of summer. The church is wet in the autumn drizzle. Here the green chapel means 'the woods'.
