If your bg is reading as H1 then u definitely need more insulin as its above the level your meter can read. Depending what meter it could be 30-35. Call your diabetic team for advice re insulin amounts as its definitely not right. U might find having separate quick and long acting insulins may be better than a mix. That way u can increase the quick acting without getting more long acting too.

The H1 or HI value denotes a dangerously high blood glucose level that cannot be detected with a Glucometer.
- This is because HI/H1 on a blood glucose metre is a value above the reportable value indicating that an individual's blood glucose level is exceptionally high.
- When the blood glucose level exceeds 27.8 mmol/L, HI appears on the screen.
- When the blood glucose level is less than 7.8 mmol/L, it is considered normal. It is termed a diabetic state if the reading remains above this after two hours of eating.
- As a result, H1/HI on a glucometer shows hyperglycemia or high glucose, which necessitates immediate medical attention.
