Karyokinesis is made up of two words, karyon and kinesis which mean division of the nucleus. In mitotic division, the karyokinesis has the following stages

1.Prophase

2.Metaphase

3.Anaphase

4.Telophase

Karyokinesis in meiotic division has a longer prophase and the prophase has the following stages

1.Leptotene

2.Zygotene

3.Pachytene

4.Diplotene

5.Diakinesis

Prophase is followed by metaphase, anaphase and telophase
