Brief journey towards Menstruation------
If the egg is not fertilised, it lives for about one day. Since the ovary releases one egg every month, the uterus also prepares itself to recieve tge fertilised egg. Thus its lining becomes thick and spongy. This would be required for nourishing the embroyo if fertilization has taken place. Now, however this lining is not needed any longer. So the lining slowly breaks down and comes out through vagina as blood and mucous. This process is known as menstruation.

The ovary of a woman release one egg every month therefore, the uterus also prepares itself every month to receive a fertilised egg. In this process the uterus wall becomes thick and soft with lots of blood capillaries in it. In case the egg is fertilised by a sperm then uterus has keep this fertilised egg and nourish it and develop into a baby. If however, the egg released by the ovary but not fertilised then thick lining of uterus wall is broken and comes out vagina in the form of blood
