Taplow considered Agamemnon to be muck because he found it uninteresting and science to be more exciting. The text of Agamemnon, written by Aeschylus, seemed to him to be just about Greek words strung together. If any student was unable to write them correctly then it would invite a punishment of writing fifty lines. Taplow considered the play to have a good plot about a wife murdering her husband but he had problems with the way in which the play was taught to them. There was no appreciation of the text involved.
