The Indian legend about the discovery of tea is related to Buddhists. It is said that a Bodhidharma or an ancient Buddhist ascetic had cut off his eyelids to avoid sleep during meditations. Ten tea plants grew out of his eyelids. The leaves of these plants when added in hot water and drunk banished sleep.
