the Quit India movement was a movement launched in India in August 1942 in response to Mahatma Gandhi's call for 'an orderly British withdrawal' from India. He asked for determined, but passive resistance - there was to be no violence in any of the protests. It was one of the last movement that the British could claim power over India.
