what does the poem mean by the 'perils beneath,all toffees i chewed'?

It talks about all the sweets and gobstoppers the poet ate which had resulted in this her having cavity in the her teeth.So the poet is thinking that if she had known about these problems that those sweets are going to be causing,then she would have avoided all those.Hope it helps and pls mark as the best answer. :-)
