The port sighs in relief as he had done right by choosing the second road through which he could get name, fame and happiness. He didn't have to regret for not being able to to take the correct decision.
The difference that a single road made in his life was completely new. Here the poet describes about the need of cautious thinking before making any decisions. It can ruin your whole life if you make a wrong decision. But it can change your whole life by making the right decision the way it helped the poet.
