The poet says that the rude and cruel thinking of today's people and their behavior towards each other is no more kind and generous. The poet compares the feelings of anger, greed, cruel, rude, annoying and selfish etc with the fire & says that the world will end due to the extreme hot burning of the fire.

The poet says "But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate to say that, for destruction, ice is also great and would suffice."

He has compared the nature of hating someone with ICE.

He expresses that the world may also end due to the excessive amount of ice getting Frozen everywhere.

Answer:

Author had compared the fire with the desire and ice with hatred. He had said that Fire is enough for the earth to end due to the extreme burning of the fire. But if the world have to end twice Ice will equally be enough to end the whole world due to the excessive amount of cold, and ice getting frozen everywhere.
