Answer:

Fertilisation occurs when a sperm fuses with the female act during intercourse and further forms an egg that gets implanted in uterus of the female. The sperm travels through the fallopian tube and penetrates the zona pellucida layer of the ovum (female egg) and fuses with it which forms zygote.

The union of male (pollen) and female (ovum) gametes to generate a diploid zygote is known as fertilisation. After the carpel has been pollinated, it undergoes a physicochemical process. In order for a zygote to grow into a seed, it must go through the entire process.

Process

  • After pollination and germination, plants fertilise themselves.
  • Pollen, which is the male microgametes of seed plants that produce sperm, is transferred from one plant to the stigma (the female reproductive organ) of another during pollination.
  • Germination happens after the pollen particle absorbs water.
  • A pollen tube forms from the germinated pollen grain and penetrates the ovule (the plant's egg structure) through a hole known as a mycropyle.
