Same drug does not work against the microbes belonging to different groups. why ? State the mechanism of antibiotics in killing bacteria
There are several types of microorganisms like bacteria, virus, protozoa etc. that cause diseases. The resistance power of these microorganisms against drugs is different. Drugs that can block the growth of one microbe may not be effective against another microbe.
Antibiotics like penicillin binds to the proteins that are responsible for the synthesis of cell wall in bacteria. By binding the specific protein of bacteria penicillin blocks the biochemical pathway of cell wall synthesis in bacteria. Antibiotics also blocks DNA synthesis, protein synthesis and ultimately results in cell death.
