the cold within"is a poem which gives us a useful message through a little story . six human beings found themselves trapped together in extreme cold. they all were sitting near the dying fire . each of them had a stick of wood to keep the fire burning. but no one wanted to give up the stick because of the feeling of cruelty, indifference, hatred, so on . the first man did not give the stick because he noticed that one of them was black . the second man did not give his stick because other man did not belong to his religion . the third man did not want the rich man to warn himself . the fourth, the rich man, did not wish to help the undeserving lazy poor person. the fifth, the black man, had hatred for the whites . the sixth expected others to show the lead. all perish from cold within and not cold without . this is the major theme of the poem . the idea is that the coldness in men's heart is a kind of death
