Answer:

In essence, the speaker needs to live a vibrant and exciting life at sea and to live it fully in order to be content when his life comes to a close.

The speaker has a deep love for the sea and hence he needs everything connected to it. In the poem, it is described that the rough weather, tired task of steering the ship, wandering around lonely in the wide open sea, the sound of the sea, rough storms,  meeting the sea creatures, a windy day, the tide going high and low, and the mist on the sea's surface is the basic need for the poet when he is at the sea. It shows that the sea is a call to the poet, John Masefield which he cannot resist.
