The term plasmolysed in reference to a cell means a cell which has lost its water content and is shrunk.
Plasmolysis is the process by which ‘cells lose’ water when placed in an environment of high solute concentration, also known as a hypertonic solution.
In a hypertonic environment, water from the cells, that is from the protoplasm, move out and the organellar content inside the cells shrink away from the cell membrane. This type of cell is known to be plasmolysed.
