What does the Vedic literature consist of?

The Vedic Literature can be classified into the following categories:
i) The four Vedas ( The Rig Veda, The Sama Veda, The Yajur Veda & The Atharva Veda) & their samhitas.
ii) The Brahmanas attached to each samhitas.
iii) The Aranyakas. 
iv) The Upanishads.

Hg vedas are the oldest texts found in india, they were written in Sanskrit .
there are four Vedas namely :

the  rig vedha. -- for the prominent priest

The yajur Veda -- for the officiating priest

the Sama Veda -- chants

the atharvana Veda -- charms


upanishads also come under Vedas.
