When you’re free, you have to worry about how to get food and if a predator will come eat you, but are those really as bad as we think? You’ll be free to fly wherever you want, poop on people’s cars when you want, sleep where you want, and generally live how you want to. You have no limits! That’s the most exciting thing that can happen. Living without limits is exactly what birds do.
A caged bird might be more pampered and cared for, but they just aren’t aware of the worries they should have. Sure you might not think you have any worries living in the cage, but what if your owners decide they don’t want you anymore? Then what? What if they forget to feed you or give you water? You can’t go get it yourself. You are 100% at the mercy of the person who put you in the cage.
I wouldn’t want my life to depend on someone who might get rid of me if I became an inconvenience to them.
