The Coriolis Effect affects the monsoon in India. The deflection in the direction of winds due to the rotation of the earth is called as Coriolis effect. The winds in the northern hemisphere gets deflected in the right and left in the southern hemisphere. This is given by Ferrell's law. This pattern of deflection is fixed and hence gives rise to a system of winds called trade winds.
Explanation:
- South west monsoon, or monsoonal winds are the example of such trade winds.
- It is because of the deflection caused by this coriolis force on south east trade winds that it enters India as south west winds or monsoon.
- And monsoon itself has a huge impact on the natural vegetation, agriculture and the economy of the country.
- The global climatic systems, especially the wind systems are getting irregular due to changes in weather patterns, and this has led to changes in Coriolis effect which in turn is affecting monsoonal rainfall, like delays in monsoon, and irregular rainfall patterns.
