Sugars are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Sugars are sweet and water soluble carbohydrates.

Sugars are obtained from different types of sources.

Most of plants tissues contain sugar compounds.

Monosaccharides are most simple sugars with formula C6H12O6 which include glucose, fructose and galactose. They are cyclic, soluble in water and contain five hydroxyl groups and a carbonyl group.

Disaccharides contain formula C12H22O11. They are called compound sugars. They are made up of two monosaccharides bound through glycosidic bond with loss of one water molecule. E. g. Sucrose, lactose and maltose.
