The author experienced profound wonder at the immense white landscape with pure blue horizon. She also wondered at the fact that Antarctica which is so cold now, once was part of the same landmass in which India was also present.  

The author found Antarctica to be extremely cold. There is no human settlement or colony, no trees, no buildings. This further surprised her.
