Explanation:

In order to send an e-mail, internet connection is mandatorily required along with mail server access. To send and to receive the appropriate e-mails, the standard protocol named as SMTP is used. IT will send and receive mails over the internet.  

Once the e-message has been sent, the client will send or notifies the SMTP using a message. If the recipient is also from same domain such as Gmail, the message is stored in a server for the purpose of accessing it via POP, IMAP protocols for later retrieval.
