a process by which the solvent molecules tend to move through the semipermeable membrane from less concentrated to high concentrated solution........ hope it helps u

Anonymous: Thanks, but the less concentrated and higher concentrated solution?
sricharita3: ya
Anonymous: didnt understand that part?
sricharita3: means from the semipermeable membrane to higher solute concentration
sricharita3: solute means like sugar salt etc... solvent means water
Anonymous: Oh,thanks.

The spontaneous movement of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane is called osmosis.

Also , osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration through a semi-permeable membrane to a region of low water concentrations.

It is purely a mechanical diffusion process by which cells observe water without spending any amount of energy.
