Punnet square is the method by which we can predict the possible genotypes of offsprings resulted of a cross in which genotypes of parents is known. The Genotype of each parent is splited that is the genes or alleles to be present in male and female gametes. Put the genes of gametes of male and female outside the punnet square. Each gamete of one sex has an equal chance to meet any of the gamete of another sex.The possible genotypes of resultant offsprings can be determined by combining each allele of male gamete with each allele of female gamete and resultant genotypes are written in each square of punnet. In this way we can get know the Genotypes and phenotyes of a particular cross. Hope it is understandable. Feeling pleasure answering questions related to Genetics.
