Bassanio narrates how he used to find lost arrows during his school days.He tells that if he lost one arrow then he would fire another one of the same kind with the same skill and speed in the same direction. He would then follow this one and often found both the arrows. And even if he is unable to find the first arrow he atleast doesn't loose the second one.
By this story, Bassanio indirectly asks Antonio for a second loan. He hints that even if he is unable to pay the first loan, he may pay it now just like how the second arrow succeeds in finding the first one. And even if he is unable to pay the first loan then he would surely be able to pay the second loan and remain eternally grateful for the first one.
