The Bolshevik leader, Vladimir Lenin returned to Russia from exile in April 1917. Lenin and the Bolsheviks had opposed the war since 1914. He felt that it was time for the Soviets to take over power. Lenin gave his "April theses" in which he made three demands:
1. the war to be close
2. the land be transferred to the peasants
3. the banks be nationalised.

Those demands were :

*He declared that the war be brought to a close.
