The landlord and his wife surprised to see the door of the scientist's room open. They found it to be a very good opportunity to investigate his room. After they got into his room, they found that the bedclothes were cold, showing that the scientist must have already woken up. All of a sudden Mrs. Hall heard a sniff close to her ear. A moment later the hat on the bed post leapt up and dashed itself into her face. Then the bedroom chair sprung into the air it and charged straight at her legs. The extraordinary chair pushed them both out of the room and then slammed and locked the door after them.
