I have not been an avid reader throughout my life and have only been reading books regularly since last 5–6 months, and I will say 9 out of 10 times that reading books is better that watching TV.

Reasons

The time that you spend (rather invest) while reading, is the time you are exclusively with yourself, with no beeping and buzzing around you. Surely, the book is also there but you are not enslaved by it.

While reading, you are required to use a major part of you brain to read, think, understand and if possible imagine and create a virtual universe around yourself of the story that you have chosen. A great Brain Exercise.
