  • Chemical name of vitamin D is calciferol.
  • It is available in two forms - D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol).
  • Physiological active form of vitamin D is calcitriol.
  • Deficiency of vitamin D causes rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Both these are diseases of bone.
