Explanation:

Bond angles mainly depend on the following three factors:-

Hybridization:- Bond angle depends on the state of hybridization of the central atom. Greater the s character, greater is the bond angle.

sp3- 109°28′

sp2- 120°

sp- 180°

2. Lone pair repulsion:- Bond angle is affected by the presence of lone pair of electrons at the central atom. A lone pair tries to repel bond pair resulting in the decrease of bond angle.

For example:- Bond angle of CH4( no lone pair) is 109° but the bond angle of NH3 ( one lone pair) is 107°.

3. Electronegativity:- If the electronegativity of the central atom decreases, bond angle decreases.

For example:- Bond angle of NH3 is 107° but the bond angle of PH3 is 93.5°.

The major factor that depends on bond angle is number of lone pair of electron which the central atom has.
