Explanation:

1. area of the land cannot increase but by the first point I meant the availability of free land. more the area of the land available for the population, better will be the distribution of population.

2. climate plays a major role. ppl don't live in places with extreme climatic conditions like in Antarctica or the Thar desert. Urbanisation and economic development is favourable mostly in areas with temperate climate so population is dense there.

3. from ancient times it has been seen that people are in search of land with good amount and quality of natural resources like iron ore etc. India is rich in mineral resources and hence it's always been a rich land. it's also seen that agricultural industries are near water bodies. so, better the quality of resources found in a place, denser is the population there.

these are a few factors on which distribution of population depends... but there are many more factors like relief features etc on which it depends.
