The following are the factors that have provided an impetus to India to increase CNG production.

CNG is formed when the natural gas which consists mainly of methane gets compressed. “ CNG remains clear, odorless and non-corrosive under high-pressure conditions.”  Important thing is, it does not contribute to the pollution and global warming.

The Supreme Court has ordered all the public transport vehicle in Delhi to use this Gas.  Later, it will be implemented in other metropolitan cities.

The factors that have given impetus are:

1) The HBJ (Hajira-Bijaipaur-Jagdishpur) pipeline is the longest pipeline in India and has a length of 1750 km.

2) Gas Authority of India laid this pipeline, which crosses around 75 rivers and 29 railway crossings.  It has its terminals at Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

3) “On its track, it provides fuel to factories that produce ammonia.  This natural gas is used as an important source of raw material for industries like fertilizers, petrochemical industries, which indeed has given an impetus to meet its energy requirements and also India’s gas production.”
