Turmoil between the Sinhalese and Sri Lankan Tamilians lead to the Civil War in Sri Lanka
- In Sri Lanka,Sinhala was the majority community. They formed the government in Sri Lanka in the first democratically held elections . They further framed laws which benefitted the sinhala citizens
- The governement announced sinhalese langauge as the national language, which was upsetting for the tamilian who felt their language was being undermined
- Also the then existing laws provided sinhalese citizens an upper hand in securing jobs and hold higher positions of powers. Again, the tamilians felt disregarded
- Tamilians demanded for self autonomy in tamil-dominated areas which was denied too.
- All these factors made tamilians feel discriminated and alienated to their own country resulting in a civil war
