• Climatic Changes i.e. temperature and levels of humidity in the air.
• Water content present in the grain.
• Attack of insects or pest species like mice.
• Bacterial attacks are also the main reason.

Controlling these factors can increase the life of grains.

• Biotic factors are those that are dependent on biological organisms and their activities.
• Such factors can be the presence of insects and rodents, bacteria, fungus and mites that all lead to the loss and destruction of food grains stored.
• Amongst abiotic factors that have nothing to do with biological organisms, the reasons can be the presence of insufficient temperature, high moisture or lack of it, lack of sunlight, presence of water and others.
