Answer:

Cyclostomata is a group of agnathans that comprises the living jawless fishes: the lampreys and hagfishes. Both groups have jawless mouths with horny epidermal structures that function as teeth, and branchial arches that are internally positioned instead of external as in jawed fishes.[1] The name Cyclostomata means "round mouths".[2][3] It was named by Joan Crockford Beattie.[4]

Answer:

A common feature of cyclostomes is that during vitellogenesis and gonadal ripening the gut begins to shrink and, after spawning, it becomes atrophic and death follows soon afterward. During its lifetime each individual animal has only one ovarian cycle, and the full complement of follicles is produced simultaneously to reproduce an animal which spends about 80% of its life in a larval form (the ammocoete). Not all the follicles mature and ovulate; some degenerate before, and others after, the onset of vitellogenesis. The latter give rise to corpora atretica (Busson-Mabillot, 1967b).
