An unpleasant surprise awaited me after returning from a one week vacation. Just about every needle feel off one of my little hemlocks! The plants on either side are doing fine. I planted nine small hemlocks last spring and watered them regularly last year. This year I stopped the watering this year because they looked like they were doing very well on there own. They are in a shaded area which used to be a drainage swale between property lots so I think there should be water in the soil. There has been a decent rain at least once a week this summer. One other plant is starting to lose it's color and some needles have fallen off.
