Explanation:

Energy is transformed from other forms into thermal energy. A sliding hockey puck comes to rest because friction converts its kinetic energy into heat which raises the thermal energy of the puck and the ice surface.

Answer:

It would be better if we ask what happens to the energy when friction takes place . Because friction do not produce energy but rather converts the energy . I would try to answer in your terminology though .

heat energy for sure due to rubbing of surfaces against each other . this happens due to the increase in the internal energy of the molecules which interact with each other and hence the electrons in the create a radiation which is heat energy . this is a rough idea of what happened .

Sound energy can be produced but not heard in most of the cases . i think that even a resting atom produces some sound which can't be heard though . when we rub two surfaces , the friction creates disturbance between very little gap between the layers and that causes the sound energy .

sometimes , friction is used to move a object faster . This might look strange but it happened in a cycle wheel . The direction of friction on rear wheel is in forward direction and bacward direction for the front wheel . hence the force acting in the wheel in forward makes the cycle to move forward and backward force makes the motion slow . hence , friction can produce kinetic energy .

Nd finally , friction can create sparks sometimes . Hence , we can tell ligot energy . Even this is a electromagnetic wave .

Oh wait , now thinking about it , even I missed few other forms of energy produced by friction . When friction acts , it can deform the material . Hence , friction can produce elastic energy .

it can even produce electrical energy if the rubbing happens between two selected materials . Just like rubbing papers with hair on the day we oil our hair . Then , you can see that paper gets attracted to the comb . This happens due to friction and the electrons gets stored in the paper as the friction helped them to move .

I could get this far just with thinking for 2 mins . I am sure you can get more other types of energy produced by friction if you think . Physics could be understood in different ways to different people but one truth prevails .
