Roderick Usher is a painter and he shares his paintings with the narrator who is impressed with his paintings which remind him of the Swiss-born British painter Henry Fuseli. The narrator attempts to cheer him by reading with him and listening to his improvised musical composition on the guitar. Roderick sings a song and they read books.
