NH3 gas (ammonia) is evolved.
When NH4Cl is treated with Ca(OH)2 , NH4 gas is produced.
2NH4Cl + Ca(OH)2 -------> CaCl2 + 2H2O + 2NH3.
NH4Cl being a byproduct of Solvay's process this treated with alkali we again get back the ammonia.
That is why Solvay's process is advantageous.
